The Schaduwdansen (Shadow Dancing) study shows that 39% of dancers in the Netherlands have experienced some form of transgressive behavior. Public discussions often focus on women, but the research also reveals that a significant number of male dancers are affected. For this group — and for those who don’t identify as men but recognize themselves in these experiences — seeking support can be especially difficult. Shame, guilt, confusion, or the belief that you’re “not allowed” to be a victim can form major barriers.
To better support this group, Dans Veilig has created a new information page. It features organizations such as MenAsWell, the Sexual Violence Center (Centrum Seksueel Geweld), Victim Support Netherlands (Slachtofferhulp Nederland), and ARQ IVP that offer help and guidance for unwanted (sexual) experiences. You’ll also find in-depth media resources and personal stories that can offer recognition and help start the conversation.
