Prevention

Prevention means proactively thinking about and actively working toward a socially safe dance environment. Preventing transgressive behavior starts with creating a safe and respectful space. On this page, you will find information and tips to achieve this, whether you are an organization in the dance sector, a dance teacher, or a dancer. By actively focusing on prevention, you contribute to the well-being of yourself and everyone involved in the dance world.

Organizations

  • Dansscholen: Dans Veilig will soon release a guide for dance schools. This guide provides practical steps that dance schools can take to ensure a socially safe environment. It includes a focus on employees, the location, members, and communication.
  • NAPK: The NAPK has published the Safely Taking the Floor (Veilig de vloer op) policy framework to support social safety policies. This document helps create a safe workspace where artists can push boundaries without the risk of abuse of power.    
  • Cultuurconnectie: As a sector organization, Cultuurconnectie supports its members with tools and other resources related to social safety.
  • CVSN (Centrum Veilige Sport Nederland): The Centre for Safe Sports Netherlands offers tailored programs for associations and municipalities to recognize transgressive behavior and promote prevention. They provide sessions on social safety and confidential support, both in-person and online, in collaboration with the Academy for Sports Framework.
  • NOC*NSF: The NOC*NSF supports affiliated sports organizations in ensuring a safe sports environment by providing guidelines such as codes of conduct, confidential advisors, and the Free Certificate of Conduct (Gratis VOG) scheme.

Dancers and Stakeholders

  • The Guide (dutch) for Dancers and Parents includes practical points to consider within your dance school or when choosing a new one.
  • Safe in Dance International (SiDI): SiDI assists dance teachers in creating a safe and healthy dance environment. They offer certifications and training programs focused on injury prevention, responsible teaching practices, and physical and mental safety. SiDI supports dance teachers in promoting sustainable dance practices.
  • Stichting Kiem: This organization provides information on the early signs of eating disorders. Parents and other stakeholders can find resources to help recognize and address problematic relationships with food early, potentially preventing the development of an eating disorder.

Dance Teachers

  • Dansbelang: As a professional organization, Dansbelang provides knowledge on various topics for dance teachers. Their upcoming part-time course, which allows dance teachers to obtain a certificate of competency, also focuses on social safety. 
  • NADB: Through its Academy, the NADB offers education, training, and courses for dance teachers in the dance sport sector. Regarding social safety, they align with the interventions developed by NOC*NSF.
  • Dansdocent.nu: This platform supports dance teachers with knowledge, inspiration, and tools. In the area of social safety, Dansdocent.nu provides advice and practical resources to help dance teachers create a safe environment for themselves and their students.
  • Dutch Gymnastics-KNGU: Dutch Gymnastics-KNGU supports dance teachers in ensuring social safety within classes and associations. They offer training in pedagogically responsible teaching practices and behavior codes for a safe dance environment.  
  • Safe in Dance International (SiDI): SiDI assists dance teachers in creating a safe and healthy dance environment. They offer certifications and training programs focusing on injury prevention, responsible teaching, and physical and mental safety. SiDI promotes sustainable dance practices among dance teachers.

Training and Education

  • In the Agenda you’ll find courses, programs, and workshops on social safety and related topics, offered by partners and public organizations. 
  • Under Trainings, you’ll find an overview of courses, education, and training programs that are not tied to specific dates. These can be followed online at any time or purchased by organizations for their network.
  • CVSN (Centrum Veilige Sport Nederland): CVSN offers sessions on social safety and confidential support, both in-person and online, delivered by experts in collaboration with the Academy for Sports Framework.
  • De Academie voor Sportkader: This organization provides training and support for trainers, including the Four Insights into Coaching module. This training helps dance teachers act with pedagogical awareness, build respectful relationships, and create a safe learning environment. Trainers gain practical tools to promote social safety and effectively guide dancers in their development.
