Creating dance and physical theatre carries vulnerability. We aim to make art at the cutting edge: risky, personal, physical, boundary-pushing. This makes it essential for makers and performers to set clear agreements about how they want to approach that challenging artistic work together.
Workshop for dance maker, dancers and performers
In this workshop, designed by Kristin de Groot (former dancer, former director of Dansateliers, advisor, and social safety counselor), we explore what social safety means for you as a maker or performer, what is particularly important to you, and how you prefer to collaborate. There is also space for exchange: dancers and makers can discuss their wishes and experiences outside the context of an existing collaboration.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a clearer understanding of who holds which responsibilities in guaranteeing social safety in the workplace and of the role of a social safety counselor. You gain some insight into the legal frameworks and you will have (the beginnings of) a code of conduct or a list of your own “golden rules” for how you want to work. This (self-)knowledge is important for safe practice in the studio. It can help you communicate with new makers or dancers, and it can be useful when developing a new organization or applying for funding.
